If you have a dull and flaky skin, it’s because your skin is not able to retain the moisture. Yes, it is the main characteristic of dry skin. The skin looks pale and chaps off during extremes of weather – both high heat and over chillness.

The low moisture levels causes all the hell – chapping, itching, flaking and the skin gets pale.

Is there no solution to this? Of course, there is:

• Maintain the moisture content by regularly removing the dead cells – I mean ex foliate. Do not scrub much, use a soft skin brush
• Use a suitable cleanser and do not use a detergent based soap
• Do not wash in tap water – a dangerous enemy to dry skin; it causes more dryness. Instead, wash in mineral water
• Do use the right kind of moisture generously – all day long to keep your skin a little greasy.
• Of course, during summer – use a proper SUN PROTECTION FORMULA (SPF) lotion to ward you off the heat
• Do gently massage the skin with baby oil after a shower.

DO’s in diet for dry skin

• Cod liver Oil – Best for good skin health
• Drink a lot of water
• Eat nuts, garlic, onion & eggs – but check out on calories please!!!
• Beans and beef are good
• Avoid coffee and alcohol
• Say no to hot water

Dry skin is prone to acne, but don’t worry not as bad as the oily skin. But, be cautious of the early ageing of the dry skin.

Treat your skin like a baby, it will stay supple as long as you want.

Are the oil glands in your skin over working? Do you look shiny and greasy all the time. Oops, you have an oily skin.

Secretion of more oil by the sebaceous glands makes the skin oily and the large pores show that up making the skin greasy.

Oily skin is worrisome because it is more prone to acne and pimples. The main causes could be heredity, hormone levels, improper food, usage of unsuitable cosmetics etc. Usually, teenagers do develop an oily skin during puberty but fades off after some time. Unlucky are the ones who continue to have an oily skin.

Oily skin is very sensitive and problematic causing blackheads and pimple which leave behind scars and blemishes for life long.

Dont worry, here a set of useful tips:

• Use hot water to clean your skin
• Use a cleanser at least 2-3 times a day
• Fuller’s earth, clay and mud packs, aloe vera are good toners
• Use a suitable astringent
• Rub a slice of cucumber, tomato or even lemon juice when free
• Turmeric and sandalwood are best friends for oily skin

Eat right to take care:

• Avoid oily and junk food
• Include a lot of green and leafy vegetables in your diet
• Drink plenty of water

Of course, you still have your friend – a dermatologist, to help you maintain good skin.

All is not bad about oily skin, it does not age as fast as the other skin types. I mean, your skin makes you look young for your age.
